Rochester man found dead in apartment after odor reports

Police in Rochester, New York, discovered a deceased man inside an apartment at 1625 East Ave. following a welfare check. Residents reported that a foul odor had been emanating from the unit for over a week, but they claim building management was slow to respond to their concerns.

One resident, Joan Anderson, stated that the smell became overwhelming on Wednesday morning. When maintenance workers eventually entered the apartment, they found the door chained from the inside. Authorities have indicated that there does not appear to be any criminal element involved in the death.
