Rochester men face sentencing for assault charges

Two separate legal developments involving assault charges have occurred in Rochester, Minnesota.

Ashton Charles Hyde, 22, has been sentenced to four months in jail and three years of probation following a plea agreement for second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. The charge stems from a March 2025 incident where Hyde allegedly chased a man and shot him in the leg with a BB gun during an argument over a THC vape cartridge. Hyde was also granted work-release privileges.

In a separate matter, Mahamed Adan Abikar, 33, has pleaded guilty to four counts of felony fourth-degree assault involving law enforcement and one count of fifth-degree assault. The charges cover multiple incidents dating back to 2022, including allegations of kicking officers and attacking detention deputies in the Olmsted County jail. Abikar is scheduled for sentencing in November.
