Rock and metal bands' most frequently played live cover songs

An analysis of live setlists from dozens of major hard rock and metal bands reveals the most frequently performed cover songs. Using data from Setlist.fm, the study highlights how artists pay homage to their influences through live renditions of other musicians' work.

Key findings include Judas Priest performing their top cover song more than 1,000 times, while Mudvayne recorded the fewest repetitions, having played their most frequent cover only twice. Several bands identified Depeche Mode as their most played cover artist. The data also notes that for many older acts, covering established hits was a strategic method to secure radio play during their early careers.
