Rock and metal bands use classic literature for song titles

Various rock and metal bands have drawn inspiration from classic literature, naming songs after popular books and short stories.

Notable examples include Led Zeppelin’s ‘Moby Dick,’ inspired by Herman Melville’s novel, and Black Sabbath’s ‘Behind the Wall of Sleep,’ which references a short story by H. P. Lovecraft. Other artists such as Pink Floyd, David Bowie, and Rush have also utilized literary titles like ‘Childhood’s End,’ ‘1984,’ and ‘Anthem’ for their musical works.

Bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica are highlighted for their frequent use of literary themes, with Iron Maiden’s ‘Phantom of the Opera’ referencing Gaston Leroux’s work, and Metallica’s ‘The Call of Kutlu’ drawing from H. P. Lovecraft’s ‘The Call of Cthulhu.’
