Rocket Lab Secures $266 Million US Missile‑Defense Contract Amid Iridium Acquisition Plans

Rocket Lab is moving toward a major transformation by acquiring Iridium Communications, a deal that would merge its launch capabilities with Iridium’s satellite‑communications network. Analysts project the combined business could generate about $1.8 billion in revenue by 2026 and approach break‑even profitability.

In parallel, the company won its largest launch contract to date: a $266 million agreement with the U.S. Space Force for 12 guaranteed sub‑orbital flights that will test ballistic‑missile, hypersonic glide‑vehicle and re‑entry vehicle profiles for missile‑defense evaluation. Six additional optional launches are included, with missions slated from Rocket Lab’s new Pacific Spaceport Complex in Kodiak, Alaska, the first no earlier than late 2026.
