Rockhampton Olympic rowing course lacks final international approval

International sporting bodies have clarified that the Rockhampton Olympic rowing course on the Fitzroy River has not yet received final international approval. In a joint statement, World Rowing, Paddle Worldwide, Rowing Australia, and Paddle Australia noted that an unreleased independent report from WaterProof Marine Consultancy is not the final step for full international sign-off.

While Queensland Premier David Crisafulli previously stated the course was ‘signed, sealed and delivered’ and had been endorsed by international bodies, the sporting organizations emphasized that several technical details must still be confirmed. These details include ensuring athletes have adequate access to necessary services and facilities.

The next phase of venue planning will be led by the Games Independent Infrastructure Coordination Authority (GIICA) through a project validation report process.
