Rockstar Games cut grocery shopping mechanic from GTA 6

Rockstar Games developers have revealed that a planned grocery shopping and refrigerator restocking mechanic was removed from the development of Grand Theft Auto VI. The system would have allowed players to purchase food at supermarkets and bring it home to restock their refrigerators, adding a layer of realism to the daily lives of the protagonists, Jason and Lucia.

Rob Nelson, co-director and head of production at Rockstar North, explained that while the concept was ready for implementation, the team ultimately decided to cut it to avoid overcomplicating the game's mechanics. The developers aimed to balance high levels of realism with core gameplay, noting that forcing players to manage household chores could shift the experience too far toward a life simulator rather than a dynamic action game.

Despite the removal of the shopping mechanic, food and physical health are still expected to play a role in the game. Developers are working on systems where characters can work out at the gym, build muscle, or gain weight, with food consumption potentially affecting health and stamina levels.
