Rockstar cites resource limits for launching GTA 6 on consoles before PC
Former Rockstar Games producer John Ricchio told YouTuber KiwiTalkz that Grand Theft Auto VI will debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in November 2026, with a PC version expected later, possibly in 2027‑2028. He explained that developing first for consoles is easier because their hardware specifications are fixed, allowing the team to optimise performance without dealing with the myriad PC configurations. Ricchio said, “It’s always better to start with the constraints and then extend,” adding that shrinking a game to fit less powerful hardware is far harder than expanding it later for more capable PCs. The delay reflects a business decision to allocate limited studio resources to the console launch rather than split effort across platforms, not an anti‑PC stance. Ricchio noted the same pattern occurred with GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, where PC ports followed the console releases by months or years. Fan frustration is evident, with a recent poll showing 57 % would boycott the game without a 60 FPS mode.
