Rockstar Games faces union drive and new crunch allegations amid GTA 6 launch

Developers at Rockstar Games' UK studios have formally requested recognition of the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) to address concerns over unequal pay, opaque bonus calculations and persistent crunch. The union alleges that the studio embeds overtime clauses in contracts, limits normal working hours to about ten extra hours per week, and has broken promises about remote work. Workers cite a pattern of layoffs and previous legal battles after attempts to organize were met with dismissals.

Rockstar's parent, Take‑Two Interactive, responded that it provides "world‑class" working conditions, high retention rates and competitive compensation, and that it will meet with the union to discuss voluntary recognition. The company has warned that it may seek a resolution through the Central Arbitration Committee if negotiations stall. The dispute comes as the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI is set for a November 19 release, raising the profile of the labor issues.

Both parties have indicated a willingness to dialog, though union representatives have warned of a possible strike if a settlement is not reached. The situation highlights ongoing tensions over industry‑wide crunch practices and workers' rights in the video‑game sector.
