Listings in the Xbox Store revealed that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI is divided into separate install categories – Story, Ultimate Edition Upgrade, Vintage Pack and an Extra section. The presence of an "Extra" category suggests that GTA 6 will offer a distinct online multiplayer component that can be downloaded independently, much like the modular approach used for recent Call of Duty titles.

Rockstar Games and its parent Take‑Two have not confirmed any details about an online mode, but analysts note the structure could allow a later launch, possibly as far out as 2027, and may even enable a free‑to‑play version supported by microtransactions. The company’s CEO has projected billions in revenue from the franchise, and the single‑player portion of GTA 6 is slated for a November 2024 release.
