Rockstar Games' GTA Online Kortz Center Heist Sparks Player Outcry Over Low Rewards
Rockstar Games released the Kortz Center Heist for GTA Online on July 14, requiring players to own an expensive mansion (starting at $11.5 million) and an Art Studio (about $4.7 million) before they can attempt the mission. The first‑time payout is $2 million, with weekly repeats offering only $400,000, meaning players must repeat the heist for more than 40 weeks to recoup their investment. In the same update, Rockstar cut payouts for other popular heists, such as the Cayo Perico job, reducing the prize from $1.9 million to under $1 million. The community has condemned the changes, fearing they push players toward real‑money microtransactions to stay competitive and worry the model may carry over to the upcoming GTA VI.
Rockstar also promoted the new heist through a Discord Orbs campaign. Players who watch the Kortz Center Heist trailer on Discord receive 200 Orbs (or 240 for Nitro subscribers), which can be spent on Discord shop items. Guides detail how to claim the Orbs without linking Rockstar accounts. The dual rollout highlights Rockstar’s strategy of coupling in‑game content updates with external platform incentives.
