Rockstar Games issues strict new modding rules for GTA 6

Rockstar Games has released updated modding guidelines that apply to its entire catalog, including the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI. The new rules, published in a Community Resources section, establish strict boundaries to protect the company’s intellectual property and official narrative.

Key restrictions include a ban on mods that expand or alter official storylines, missions, or characters. Additionally, creators are prohibited from combining assets, maps, or characters from different Rockstar titles. The guidelines also forbid unauthorized ports to non-official platforms and the use of third-party intellectual property, such as real-world music or likenesses.

Regarding monetization, Rockstar states that any commercial use of mods must occur through its officially licensed Creator Platform. Unlicensed monetization, including the use of real money, cryptocurrency, or gambling within mods, is strictly prohibited. While single-player visual and gameplay tweaks remain largely permitted, the new framework provides the studio with clear grounds to remove content that interferes with official services or violates these established boundaries.
