Rockstar Games launches free GTA 5 upgrade to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Rockstar Games announced that owners of Grand Theft Auto V on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One can upgrade to the next‑generation versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at no cost. The free upgrade, available from the week of 18 June 2026, applies to digital purchases on both consoles and to PC players, and can be claimed through the respective digital stores.

The enhanced editions offer higher‑resolution graphics, higher frame rates, reduced loading times and exclusive content such as special vehicles and career‑progress rewards. Players can transfer their Story Mode and GTA Online progress via Rockstar’s cloud service, ensuring a seamless move to the new platform. The move is timed to keep GTA 5 relevant ahead of the planned release of Grand Theft Auto VI later in 2026.
