Rockstar Games offers free GTA V upgrade to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Rockstar Games announced that owners of Grand Theft Auto V on PS4 or Xbox One can upgrade to the next‑generation versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S at no cost. The free upgrade, released on 18 June 2026, applies to digital copies on both consoles; physical Xbox One discs are excluded. Players also keep their story progress when moving to the new editions.

The next‑gen versions bring technical improvements, including up to 4K resolution, 60 fps frame rate, ray‑tracing, HDR, 3D audio on PS5 and DualSense haptic feedback, as well as enhanced textures and draw distances. PC owners can also upgrade freely from the legacy to the enhanced edition. Rockstar timed the upgrade to generate renewed interest in GTA V ahead of the scheduled launch of GTA VI on 19 November 2026.
