Rockstar Games postpones GTA 6 PC launch, cites console‑first strategy
Rockstar Games confirmed that the upcoming open‑world title GTA 6 will debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November, with the PC version slated for a later release. Former senior producer John Riccitiello explained that developing a PC version simultaneously would stretch engineering resources and risk insufficient staffing for console polishing, stating, “If the team works on PC compatibility adjustments, it means the console version’s refinement will face a manpower shortage.”
He also highlighted the technical challenges of the PC market’s diverse hardware configurations, which require many times more testing and optimization than the uniform console hardware. Rockstar’s past practice of releasing PC ports months or years after console launches, sometimes even shelving a completed PC build, underpins this decision. The delay has sparked disappointment among PC gamers worldwide, while the company argues it safeguards the quality of the initial launch.
