Poland prepares new defense law for pre-war readiness

The Polish Ministry of National Defence (MON) is drafting a new law to enhance the country's defense preparedness. The legislation aims to bridge the legal gap between peacetime and the formal declaration of martial law, creating a framework for a 'pre-war state.'

Key objectives of the proposed law include strengthening national defense capabilities, improving coordination between the military and internal security services, and adapting to modern threats such as hybrid warfare, cyberattacks, and disinformation. The draft also seeks to consolidate various existing regulations into a single legal framework.

Significant provisions include the ability to facilitate the earlier movement of both Polish and allied troops, the integration of Poland's defense response plan with the NATO Response System, and the preparation of necessary infrastructure. Additionally, the law would expand the number of entities involved in permanent duty systems and establish rules for civil employees working at command posts, which may include restrictions on leaving their workplaces during crises.
