Rocío Velarde elected president of ASIEX
Rocío Velarde, an executive at Citi, has been elected president of the Dominican Association of Exporters (ASIEX) for the 2026-2028 term. Velarde is the second woman to lead the association in its 40-year history.
During her inauguration, Velarde emphasized the opportunity to strengthen the country's position as an investment destination due to shifts in global supply chains. She outlined four key commitments to work with the government: investing in human capital, promoting energy efficiency, co-investing in logistics and innovation ecosystems, and increasing legal certainty and regulatory agility.
During the ceremony, ASIEX recognized Foreign Minister Víctor Bisonó for his contributions to promoting foreign investment and competitiveness. Bisonó noted that foreign direct investment exceeded US$5,000 million in 2025, citing political and economic stability as key drivers. He highlighted the use of economic diplomacy through embassies and consulates to support national exports and attract new commercial opportunities.
