Rodovia dos Tamoios: Serra antiga reopened amid landslide risks
Authorities have reopened one lane of the 'Serra antiga' section of the Rodovia dos Tamoios following recent disruptions. The road serves as a primary link between the Litoral Norte region and Vale do Paraíba. Under the current arrangement, the 'Serra antiga' is used for descending toward the coast, while the 'Serra nova' remains designated for ascending toward Vale do Paraíba.
Caraguatatuba Mayor Mateus Silva has called for permanent solutions to the frequent road closures caused by heavy rainfall. He noted that these interruptions impact local employment, the cost of living, and access to healthcare services.
In a related safety effort, the Civil Defense, Fire Department, and the Environmental Research Institute (IPA) conducted inspections of a hillside on Avenida Presidente Campos Sales showing signs of erosion. Officials declared an imminent risk of disaster due to unstable rock blocks and a lack of barriers. The Civil Defense indicated that emergency interventions may proceed without prior environmental licensing under specific federal regulations to mitigate the risk of landslides.
