Rodri apologizes to Valencia after controversial remarks

Barcelona midfielder Rodri has issued a public apology to Valencia CF following controversial remarks caught on camera. During a 5-0 victory at Mestalla, television footage appeared to show Rodri describing the struggling Valencia squad as “very weak” and “really weak” in a private conversation with teammates Pau Cubarsí and Raphinha.

Rodri addressed the incident following Barcelona’s Champions League win against Feyenoord, stating that his comments were an “expression of surprise” and were not intended to mock the club. He confirmed he had personally called Valencia captain José Luis Gayà to apologize to him and the entire squad. Rodri expressed his hope that Valencia would return to its rightful place in the league.

Separately, Barcelona sporting director Deco addressed various transfer and club matters. He clarified that the club did not pressure Julián Álvarez to publicly express a desire to leave Atlético Madrid, noting that Barcelona made a formal offer that received no response. Deco also discussed the club's decision to retain young talent Marc Bernal despite significant interest from Premier League clubs, emphasizing his importance to the long-term project.
