Rodri joins FC Barcelona in 76.5 million euro transfer
FC Barcelona has completed the high-profile transfer of midfielder Rodri from Manchester City for a total package of up to 76.5 million euros, consisting of a 60 million euro initial payment and 16.5 million euros in potential bonuses.
Reports suggest the move was a significant blow to rivals Real Madrid. While Rodri had previously reached a verbal agreement with Real Madrid, Real President Florentino Perez reportedly declined to match Barcelona's 76 million euro offer, sticking to an original 50 million euro valuation. This decision was allegedly influenced by internal club politics, as Rodri had not supported Perez during his presidential election campaign.
Additionally, journalist Gerard Romero claims that former Real Madrid icon Dani Carvajal may have influenced the decision by warning Rodri about the tense atmosphere within the Real Madrid dressing room. The 30-year-old Ballon d'Or winner is expected to provide a defensive foundation for Barcelona's upcoming campaigns.
