Rodrigo Paz faces allegations of corruption and campaign spending discrepancies

Bolivian businessman and former presidential candidate Samuel Doria Medina has accused the administration of President Rodrigo Paz of prioritizing the accumulation of state resources over effective governance. Doria Medina, once a key ally of Paz, cited ethical concerns and a lack of anti-corruption efforts as reasons for his break from the government. He further alleged that state resources might be used to secure parliamentary support through irregular means, such as payments and positions.

In a separate critique, activist and lawyer Nadia Beller challenged President Paz’s claim that his election campaign cost only $50,000. Beller argued the figure is incomplete, alleging that a sophisticated technological and business structure involving presidential advisor Fernando Cerimedo and American digital strategist Brad Parscale was involved. She questioned how this international-level digital operation, which utilized automation and bot farms, was financed if it was not part of the official campaign budget, and raised concerns regarding potential business benefits granted to those involved in the campaign and subsequent administration.
