Rodrigo Peña appointed Regional Prosecutor for Maule, Chile
National Prosecutor Ángel Valencia officially designated lawyer Rodrigo Peña Sepúlveda as the new Regional Prosecutor of the Fiscalía Regional del Maule. Peña will assume the eight‑year term on 4 September, succeeding Julio Contardo whose mandate ended after the constitutional limit.
The appointment follows a public competition organized by the Talca Court of Appeal, which presented a shortlist of candidates to the National Prosecutor. Peña holds a law degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and a master’s in criminal law from the Universities of Talca and Pompeu Fabra. His career in the Ministry of Public Prosecutions began in 2008 as an assistant prosecutor in the violent and sexual crimes unit, later serving in procedural resources, heading the legal‑advice unit of the Maule regional office (2014‑2018), working in the specialized unit for money‑laundering and organized crime, and most recently advising the Metropolitan South legal‑advice unit since 2022.
