Rodrigo Xavier Leonardo named full professor of Civil Law at UFPR
Rodrigo Xavier Leonardo has become the new full professor of Civil Law at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). His appointment follows a four-hour thesis defense held on October 14, marking the first time the university has held a thesis defense for this specific title in 27 years.
The last person to achieve this position through a thesis defense at UFPR was Luiz Edson Fachin, the current president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), in 1999. Unlike many academic appointments that occur via the submission of an academic memorial, Leonardo’s process was distinguished by the presentation of a specific thesis titled “A contratualização dos efeitos deletérios do tempo na decadência convencional”.
His research investigates the possibility of parties contractually establishing effects related to the passage of time regarding rights subject to decadence. The examining board included international professors from the University of Coimbra in Portugal, the University of Lima in Peru, and the University of São Paulo (USP).
