Rodri's move to Barcelona surprises Spain coach and Real Madrid
Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente has revealed that he expected midfielder Rodri to sign with Real Madrid before the player ultimately chose to join FC Barcelona. De la Fuente noted that his close relationship with the player allowed him to observe the negotiations, which initially seemed to be heading toward the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid reportedly views the failure to secure Rodri during the summer transfer window as a major error. The club had identified the 30-year-old as a primary successor to Toni Kroos. The impact of the transfer is visible in the current La Liga standings, where Barcelona leads the table with 21 points, while Real Madrid sits in fourth place with 15 points.
De la Fuente also commented on the potential tactical synergy between Rodri and Pedri within the Spanish national team, suggesting that while Rodri’s presence may require Pedri to adapt his playing style, the two can form a highly effective midfield partnership.
