Roepa Merdeka exhibition opens in Jakarta

The Roepa Merdeka installation art exhibition opened at Balai Sudirman in Jakarta, featuring fiber and thread-based works created by members of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).

Tri Tito Karnavian, the Daily Chairperson of the National Crafts Council (Dekranas), inaugurated the event, emphasizing the importance of creative spaces for local artists. He noted that the creative economy sector involves nearly 25 million workers in Indonesia and highlighted the role of art as a medium for emotional processing and self-healing.

Metty M Herindra, advisor to DWP BIN, stated that the exhibition is the result of learning processes initiated by the organization in 2025. The event aims to celebrate women and preserve cultural heritage through craftsmanship. In addition to displaying works, the exhibition includes free craft learning areas for the public and a social component where proceeds from specific sales are donated to charity.
