Roermond advances Centrumkwartier urban redevelopment

The redevelopment of the Centrumkwartier in Roermond is progressing with several key milestones. The municipality, alongside development partners JPO and Focus Real Estate, has signed a construction claim agreement and selected the architectural firm Bedeaux de Brouwer to lead the next design phase. The firm was chosen for its expertise in urban development within historical contexts.

Retailer HEMA will remain part of the project, with a new location planned for Munsterplein. Additionally, the municipality is investigating how to integrate social functions, such as the local library and the Historiehuis, into the new development. A 1 million euro contribution from the Limburg province's Leefbaarheidsfonds has been secured for the project, with extended timelines granted to accommodate ecological studies regarding local bat populations.

Financially, Roermond is utilizing approximately 9 million euros from its reserves for various municipal projects. This includes 5 million euros dedicated to the redevelopment of the Spoorzone and 2.25 million euros for the Tegelarijeveld area, both aimed at supporting housing development.
