Roero Food District to host conference on future of agrifood
The Roero Food District has organized a conference titled ‘Cibo 2050: dal Roero al mondo, le sfide che ci attendono’ (Food 2050: from Roero to the world, the challenges awaiting us), scheduled for October 21 in Alba, Italy. The event is part of the Alba International White Truffle Fair.
International consultant Robert Jhonson will lead discussions on the evolving agrifood landscape. Key topics include climate change, resource availability, artificial intelligence, digital traceability, sustainable packaging, and the geopolitics of food. The conference aims to address how regions like Roero, known for high-quality production, can remain competitive in global markets amidst shifting consumption habits and technological innovation.
Recent ISTAT data highlights a significant structural transformation in Italian agriculture, noting that the number of active farms decreased by 30.3% between 2010 and 2023. Furthermore, the average size of Italian farms remains small at approximately 10.6 hectares, significantly lower than the average sizes found in Germany, France, and Denmark.
