Rogelio Genao resigns from PRSC after 37 years

Rogelio Alfonso Genao, a deputy representing La Vega and spokesperson for the Reformist Social Christian Party (PRSC) bloc in the Chamber of Deputies, has formally resigned from the party. The decision, communicated via a letter to party president Federico Antún Batlle, ends Genao's 37-year affiliation with the organization.

Genao stated that his departure is not motivated by resentment but by a deep concern regarding the party's current direction. He described the PRSC as being in a “limbo,” citing a lack of clear leadership, political definition, and a failure to present proposals that engage younger generations. He criticized the party leadership for what he termed “lukewarmness” and “negligence,” noting a preference for indecision over firm political positions.

A significant factor in his resignation was the perceived lack of recognition for long-standing members and militants who have made personal sacrifices for the cause. Genao remarked, “A party that does not value its own ends up being left without them.” Despite his exit, he affirmed his continued commitment to the political principles he learned within the movement and the legacy of former president Joaquín Balaguer.
