Independiente signs Franco Calderón on loan from Universidad de Chile

Independiente has officially signed central defender Franco Calderón on loan from Universidad de Chile. The move follows a period of restructuring for the Avellaneda-based club under new coach Jadson Viera.

Calderón, who has spent two and a half years and played 100 matches for Universidad de Chile, departs to help free up a foreign player slot for the Chilean side. The defender expressed his readiness to contribute to the squad, noting the mix of youth and experience within the team. While his contract with Universidad de Chile runs through the end of 2027, the loan agreement allows him to join the Argentine side immediately.
