Rogelio Genao resigns from PRSC to serve as independent deputy
Dominican Republic Deputy Rogelio Alfonso Genao Lanza has resigned from the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC), announcing his intention to remain in office as an independent legislator. Genao cited disagreements with the party's current leadership, claiming the organization has failed to pursue political renewal or create proposals that resonate with the youth and the general public.
PRSC President Federico Antún Batlle responded to the resignation by stating that Genao had sought the position of General Secretary but was not granted the role. Antún noted that Genao declined alternative offers, including the National Electoral Secretary position and a second national vice presidency. The party leadership argued that the General Secretary role requires permanent dedication and active contact with territorial structures, which they felt Genao had not prioritized.
Genao, who represents the La Vega province, stated that his decision has the respect and support of his father, Senator Ramón Rogelio Genao, who remains affiliated with the PRSC. While Genao has not yet announced his future political affiliations, he confirmed he has received interest from various other political organizations.
