Rogelio Granguillhome proposed as Mexico's new ambassador to Ireland

President Claudia Sheinbaum has proposed Rogelio Granguillhome Morfín as the new Mexican ambassador to the Republic of Ireland. The nomination has been submitted to the Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Union for legislative approval.

Granguillhome Morfín, an International Relations graduate from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), specializes in international economic affairs, economic promotion, and international cooperation. His mandate will focus on deepening bilateral economic ties, strengthening historical and cultural links, and establishing Mexico as a key strategic partner for Ireland.

His extensive diplomatic career includes serving as Mexico's ambassador to Uruguay, South Korea, India, Singapore, and Germany. Most recently, from 2021 to June 2026, he served as the Ambassador of Mexico to Belgium and the European Union, where he contributed to the negotiation of the Modernized Global Agreement between Mexico and the EU member states. He also previously served as the first executive director of the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID).
