Roger Akelius donates $75 million to support children in Gaza

Swedish billionaire Roger Akelius, through the Akelius Foundation, has donated 800 million Swedish kronor (approximately $75 million) to UNICEF Sweden. This marks the largest single private donation in the organization’s history in the country.

The funds are part of a major initiative to restore education in the Gaza Strip. The goal is to establish schools in both temporary tents and permanent buildings, hire teachers, and provide 100,000 meals per day over the next five years.

This private contribution acts as a catalyst for broader Swedish humanitarian efforts. Combined with a 400 million krona ($35 million) contribution from the Swedish government and 20 million kronor from the Swedish Postcode Lottery, the total humanitarian aid from Sweden to UNICEF for children in the region exceeds 1.22 billion kronor (over $100 million).
