Roger Goodell extends NFL commissioner contract through 2031

Roger Goodell has agreed to a four-year contract extension that will keep him serving as NFL commissioner through the 2030 season, with the deal officially expiring on March 31, 2031. This marks his fifth extension since taking the role in September 2006.

According to the NFL Compensation Committee, led by New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, more than 95% of Goodell’s compensation under the new agreement will be performance-based. His pay will be tied to specific financial and commercial measurements evaluated by the committee. While the exact financial terms were not disclosed, the extension provides leadership stability as the league approaches the expiration of its current collective bargaining agreement in March 2031.

During Goodell’s tenure, the NFL has seen significant increases in franchise values and league revenue. His administration has also focused on international expansion, including a scheduled record of nine international games for the 2026 season.
