Roger Marshall threatens legal action over medical debt campaign ads

Lawyers for U.S. Senator Roger Marshall (R-Kansas) have threatened legal action against the campaign of Adam Hamilton, alleging that recent advertisements distributed by the campaign are defamatory.

The ads feature Meischa Zimmerman, a former patient of Marshall, who claims she was arrested and handcuffed while eight months pregnant due to medical debt. Marshall’s legal team argues the ads present a false narrative by implying the arrest was caused by a single missed $50 payment. They contend that while Zimmerman was indeed arrested, the arrest was actually for failing to appear in court rather than the debt itself, and that she had multiple outstanding legal and financial issues across several counties.

This dispute follows previous reporting regarding Marshall’s history as an OB/GYN in Great Bend, Kansas, where court records indicate he was involved in suing more than 700 patients over delinquent medical bills.
