Roger McKenzie, comic book writer for Daredevil and Captain America, dies at 75
American comic book writer Roger McKenzie has died at the age of 75. According to his family, McKenzie passed away on the morning of Friday, August 21, while receiving hospice care. He had been battling terminal heart failure and kidney disease for several months.
Mckenzie is most recognized for his influential work on Marvel Comics' Daredevil between 1978 and 1980, where he helped introduce a darker, more noir-inspired tone to the character. His tenure on the title included the introduction of Ben Urich and a collaboration with artist Frank Miller, who eventually took over much of the series' scripting duties.
Throughout his career, which began in 1976 with Warren Publishing, McKenzie contributed to numerous iconic titles including Captain America, Ghost Rider, and Battlestar Galactica. He also worked with DC Comics on horror titles such as House of Mystery and House of Secrets. Beyond major publishers, he co-created the science fiction series Sun Runners and founded Pied Piper Comics.
