Roger Taylor’s songwriting legacy celebrated on his 77th birthday

Roger Taylor turned 77 on 26 July 2026. Born in King's Lynn, England, he is best known as the drummer of Queen, but his influence extends far beyond percussion. Taylor began his musical career with The Reaction and later auditioned for Smile, the band that evolved into Queen after Freddie Mercury joined in 1970.

Within Queen, Taylor contributed vocals, multi‑instrumental parts, and a substantial catalogue of songs. Notable compositions include “Radio Ga Ga”, “A Kind of Magic”, “I’m in Love with My Car” (the B‑side of the iconic “Bohemian Rhapsody” single), “Sheer Heart Attack”, “These Are the Days of Our Lives”, and “Heaven for Everyone”. His songwriting generated important royalties and helped shape the band’s sound.

Beyond Queen, Taylor pursued solo projects, releasing albums such as *Fun in Space* (1981), *Strange Frontier*, and leading the side band The Cross, which produced three studio albums. He also performed with Queen + Paul Rodgers and continues to appear on international tours, underscoring his lasting impact on rock history.
