Roger Waters endorses Lula da Silva in Brazilian election appeal
Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters released a video message urging Brazilian citizens to vote in the upcoming election. Waters expressed explicit support for the reelection of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, describing him as an “honest” leader who has worked his entire life for the Brazilian people.
The musician called for high voter turnout, suggesting a goal of 90% or higher, and encouraged families to assist the elderly in reaching polling stations. Waters also addressed political tensions, criticizing Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and the previous administration. He specifically referenced the 2018 assassination of Marielle Franco as a motivation for voting.
Furthermore, Waters raised concerns regarding Brazil's sovereignty, claiming that certain political interests are aligned with the United States to exploit the Amazon rainforest and the country's mineral resources. This endorsement follows a 2023 meeting between Waters and Lula at the Palácio do Planalto.
