Rogers completes $300M 5G expansion project in eastern Ontario

Rogers and the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) have completed the $300 million EORN Cell Gap Project, expanding 5G coverage to communities, roadways, and Indigenous nations across eastern Ontario.

The project was funded through a public-private partnership. Rogers contributed $150 million following a competitive bidding process, while the federal government and the Province of Ontario each provided $71 million. Local municipalities, via the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus and the Eastern Ontario Mayors’ Caucus, added $10 million.

To achieve the project goals, Rogers constructed 346 new wireless sites through new towers and colocations, and upgraded 311 existing sites with 5G hardware. The initiative aimed to provide 99 per cent voice call coverage, 95 per cent standard definition data coverage, and 85 per cent high-definition coverage along major roadways. Participating areas include several counties and cities such as Frontenac, Hastings, Peterborough, Kingston, and Cornwall.
