Rohit Chandel granted bail in POCSO case
Television actor Rohit Chandel, known for roles in ‘Pandya Store’ and ‘Kashibai Bajirao Ballal’, has been granted bail by the Mumbai Sessions Court after nearly two months in custody. Chandel was arrested in July following allegations of stalking, harassment, and physical assault involving a 16-year-old actress. He was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Defense attorney Saveena Bedi Sachar argued that the chargesheet contained significant factual discrepancies. These included inconsistent records of Chandel’s marital status, religion, and occupation. Additionally, the defense highlighted that an Aadhaar card provided by the complainant indicated an age of 23, contradicting the age attributed to her in the chargesheet. The lawyer also noted that the complainant’s father did not support her account of the events. Chandel’s brother, Mohit Chandel, confirmed the bail development and stated that the actor is expected to be released following the completion of legal paperwork.
