Rohit Sharma breaks Sachin Tendulkar's ODI opening record
During the third and final ODI against West Indies in New Chandigarh, Rohit Sharma became the fastest opening batter in ODI history to reach 10,000 runs. Achieving the milestone in just 202 innings, Sharma surpassed the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who reached the mark in 214 innings.
Sharma joins an elite group of opening batters with 10,000 ODI runs, alongside Tendulkar, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Chris Gayle. Despite Sharma’s contribution and a strong recovery led by KL Rahul, who scored an unbeaten 129 off 87 balls, India fell short.
India posted a total of 351 for seven, but West Indies successfully chased the target, reaching 352 for five in 48.2 overs. Shai Hope led the West Indian chase with an unbeaten 162, securing a five-wicket victory and marking the highest successful ODI run chase in West Indies history.
