Rohit Sharma may return as Mumbai Indians captain for IPL 2027

Reports suggest the Mumbai Indians are considering reinstating Rohit Sharma as captain for the IPL 2027 season. Sharma, who led the franchise to five championships, was replaced by Hardik Pandya ahead of the 2024 season.

Under Pandya’s leadership, the team has struggled, finishing at the bottom of the table in 2024 and ninth in 2025. While other candidates like Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma have been mentioned, Sharma remains a primary contender for the role.

Speculation regarding Pandya’s future includes potential trade negotiations with the Rajasthan Royals. Such a move could involve the acquisition of Yashasvi Jaiswal to bolster Mumbai's batting lineup as the team prepares for a post-Sharma era. No official confirmation has been released by the franchise.
