Rohit Sharma receives backing for 2027 ODI World Cup

Former Indian cricket figures Dilip Vengsarkar and Chetan Sharma have expressed support for Rohit Sharma's continued involvement in One Day International (ODI) cricket, specifically regarding his prospects for the 2027 World Cup.

Dilip Vengsarkar, a former captain and national selector, criticized the ongoing questioning of Sharma's abilities despite his history of performing in major matches. Vengsarkar noted that while Sharma's participation in the 2027 World Cup will depend on his fitness and ongoing performance, he believes there is still a place for him as an opener. Vengsarkar also praised Shubman Gill for his leadership and batting style during his recent tour of England.

Similarly, former chief selector Chetan Sharma defended Sharma, suggesting that age should not be a primary factor. He referred to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as the ‘Kohinoors’ of Indian cricket, asserting that their continued presence in the squad is vital provided they maintain fitness.
