Rohit Sharma reflects on 2023 World Cup final as career's toughest moment

Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma has described the aftermath of the 2023 ODI World Cup final defeat as the most difficult period in his 19-year professional career. Reflecting on the loss to Australia in Ahmedabad, Sharma noted that while he faced personal struggles during a 2012 tour of Sri Lanka, the November 19 defeat was uniquely painful because it represented the collective dream of an entire nation.

Sharma stated that the heartbreak served as a catalyst for the team, creating a sense of hunger and desperation that eventually led to India winning the T20 World Cup the following year. He noted that the team had been performing at an exceptionally high level throughout the 2023 tournament, which made the sudden loss in the final even harder to process.
