Rohit Sharma to remain in India ODI squad despite hamstring injury
India’s veteran opener Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL, raising doubts about his participation in the upcoming three‑match ODI series against Afghanistan. Despite the setback, his childhood coach Dinesh Lad dismissed concerns about Sharma’s fitness and form, stating the 39‑year‑old “does not need to prove anything to anyone” and remains crucial for India’s 2027 ODI World Cup ambitions.
Lad highlighted Sharma’s consistent technique, work ethic and recent IPL performances, noting that the batsman continues to train daily and has no technical issues. He affirmed that Sharma will definitely be part of the Indian squad for the 2027 World Cup, insisting that criticism over his recent low scores against New Zealand is unwarranted. The coach also reminded Sharma to draw on his successful 2019 World Cup approach as the team prepares for the next six months of international 50‑over cricket.
