Rohit Sharma's cricket future remains subject to performance amid BCCI internal tension
Speculation regarding Rohit Sharma’s future with the Indian cricket team has surfaced following reports of a rift within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Reports suggest that selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar, had previously indicated to Sharma that the team is looking toward the 2027 World Cup and that his recent ODI appearance at Lord’s might be his last.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia publicly disputed these reports, asserting that Sharma remains a regular member of the ODI team and will continue to represent the country as long as he is in the selection scheme. This public stance reportedly caused dissatisfaction among the selectors.
While some commentators have called for Sharma’s retirement, supporters argue that his future remains dependent on his on-field performance. Sharma recently bolstered his position with a century at Lord’s and is expected to feature in the upcoming series in the West Indies.
