Speculation continues regarding whether Indian veteran opener Rohit Sharma will participate in the 2027 ODI World Cup. Following his retirement from T20Is and Test cricket, discussions have intensified about his future in the one-day format.

Recent social media claims suggested that Sharma’s decision to skip the 2027 tournament is final and that a farewell series is being planned. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed such rumors. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated there have been no discussions regarding retirement and indicated Sharma will continue to play as long as he remains within the team’s plans.

Former cricketer Matthew Hayden noted that Sharma’s participation will likely depend on his ability to maintain the energy required for the demanding international schedule. Despite recent rumors during a series against England, Sharma recently scored 138 runs off 110 balls at Lord’s, reinforcing his current standing in the squad.
