Former India captain Rohit Sharma, now 39 and playing only ODIs, has reiterated his aim to feature in the ICC ODI World Cup scheduled for October‑November 2027. Former opener Wasim Jaffer noted that Sharma remains available but his selection will depend on the judgment of coaches and selectors, especially given his recent indifferent form and recurring fitness issues.

Sharma will be 40 years and six months old when the tournament begins, and faces competition for the opening spot from young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, who impressed in recent matches.
