Rohit Sharma's selection for 2027 ODI World Cup questioned by ex‑cricketer

Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar said Rohit Sharma should not be chosen for India's 2027 ODI World Cup squad, arguing the team should prioritize younger players and long‑term future over senior stars. Manjrekar, speaking on Sony Sports, noted Sharma is 39 and would be the first batter to appear in a World Cup at age 40 or older, raising fitness concerns after recent hamstring issues.

He highlighted Sharma's recent form – 143 runs in three ODIs against Afghanistan at an average above 47 – but suggested alternatives such as Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan or Ruturaj Gaikwad. Manjrekar urged selectors to think about the future of Indian cricket rather than individual preferences.
