Rohto Pharmaceutical research suggests Cordyceps sinensis affects brain function
Rohto Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Mie University, has announced research findings suggesting that long-term administration of Cordyceps sinensis (Hirsutella sinensis mycelium) may influence neural circuit formation and brain energy metabolism.
Using zebrafish as a model, the study found that six months of oral administration of Cordyceps sinensis powder led to increased expression of genes associated with the formation, maintenance, and remodeling of neural circuits. Additionally, metabolomic analysis revealed an increase in metabolites related to the glycolysis pathway, which converts glucose into energy. This suggests a high rate of energy metabolism turnover within the brain, where ATP is actively utilized and replenished.
The research aims to support the development of products focused on longevity and brain-nerve system health by clarifying the molecular and metabolic mechanisms of this traditional medicinal material.
