Rojin Kabaiş investigation reveals conflicting forensic and digital evidence

The investigation into the death of Rojin Kabaiş, a university student found in Van, has revealed conflicting forensic and digital evidence. The family's lawyer, Abdurrahman Karabulut, asserts that Kabaiş was murdered by being drugged with Ornidazole and the muscle relaxant Rocuronium. He argues that because Rocuronium has a short half-life of 30 to 90 minutes, its presence in her stomach and organs cannot be attributed to a surgery she underwent on September 11, 2024.

Conversely, the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) report suggests the Rocuronium found is consistent with her previous surgery, noting the substance can remain detectable for up to two months. The institute stated there was no medical evidence of poisoning or traumatic injury, and that alcohol levels found were consistent with natural decomposition.

Digital forensics have added further complexity. Expert analysis of Xiaomi activity logs indicates that Kabaiş's Google account was accessed via SMS on October 1, 2024, while she was still missing. Furthermore, a 'device deletion' command was executed on October 10, 2024, from an IP address linked to Van and another appearing to be from the Czech Republic. Efforts to unlock the phone in Spain and China were unsuccessful, though the deletion occurred while the device was in custody.

Additionally, the autopsy report noted the presence of DNA from two different men in the chest and vaginal areas of the deceased. Legal representatives have requested the detention of two suspects based on digital traces and HTS records.
